Supervision

Supervision is conducted according to the following Association for
Play Therapy standards for supervisory contact.

The following types of supervisory contact may be counted as individual supervision hours:

a.
Face to Face: The supervisee and supervisor meet and discuss cases based on the
therapist’s report or notes of the sessions. Note: Every supervisor providing 10 or more hours of
supervision must observe at least one (1) play therapy session conducted by the supervisee
sometime during the course of the entire supervision period. The supervisor may observe a live
session or review a videotape to meet this requirement. There is no limit to the number of hours that
may be obtained in this format.

b. Face to Face with Videotape Review: The supervisor and supervisee meet and
review videotapes of the supervisee’s play therapy sessions. There is no limit to the number of
hours that may be obtained in this format.

c.
Telephone*: The supervisee and supervisor discuss cases over the telephone based on the
therapist’s report or notes of the session. Note: Every supervisor must observe at least one (1) play
therapy session conducted by the supervisee sometime during the course of the entire supervision
period. The supervisor may observe a live session or review a videotape to meet this requirement.
No more than 5 of the 35 hours of supervision
required may be in this category.

d.
Telephone with Videotape Review*: The supervisee mails videotape(s) of play therapy
session(s) to the supervisor who reviews these and then discusses the videotape(s) with the
supervisee in a telephone session. Only the telephone time is counted towards the supervision
hours. There is no limit
to the number of hours that may be obtained in this format.

e.
Telephone with Simultaneous Videotape Review*: The supervisee mails copies of
videotapes of play therapy sessions to the supervisor who reviews these and then discusses the
videotapes with the supervisee in a telephone session. During the telephone session the supervisor
and supervisee make arrangements to actually review their copy of the tape on their own VCRs as
the session proceeds. Again, only the telephone time is counted towards the supervision hours.
There is no limit to the
number of hours that may be obtained in this format.

f.
Group Supervision: The supervision group may not exceed 10 supervisees. No more than
15 hours of supervision may be obtained in this category.

g.
Individual Supervision in Group Setting: If the supervisee has individual
supervision within a group, the individual time may be counted as individual supervision. There is no
limit to the number of hours that may be obtained in this format.

*The supervisee is responsible for all telephone charges in addition to
supervision fees.
